Cultural Tour at Pa Sak River Plain – Saraburi Province
Ideal for an escape from the bustle of Bangkok, Saraburi offers a chance to appreciate a simple down-to-earth lifestyle of the Thai Yuan, an ancient ethnic group of the Kingdom. The trip begins at Amphoe Sao Hai, a small district to the west of Saraburi Town. The first stop is a splendid traditional Thai wooden house on the banks of the Pa Sak River at Thai Yuan Cultural Centre, where visitors will enjoy an interesting talk about the Thai Yuan by Ajarn Songchai Wannakul. The next stop is Wat Khao Kaeo Woramahawihan Temple, where visitors have the opportunity to pay respect to the relics of our Lord Buddha which are enshrined therein. Pleasurably, the next stop is at Dao Rueang weekend floating market, where villagers prepare Phad Thai, Khanom Khrok (coconut cream pudding), as well as other delicious tidbits.

Visitors may rent bicycles to tour around the village, and may visit the local cloth weaving group at Wat Ton Tan Temple. They specialize in fine shoulder bags. Subsequently, the tour will go on to nearby Wat Phayao Temple, in which a golden Buddha image is enshrined. Then cycle past breathtaking rice fields and Wat Pak Bang Temple to Tambon Ban Yang. From there, visitors will enjoy Krayasat, another local specialty made fresh from sesame seed, peanut, roasted rice, palm sugar and coconut milk. Relax at the village before cycling back in the late afternoon. On the route back to Ajarn Songchai’s house, visitors will find shops selling highly refined wickerwork which makes excellent house decorations and plant containers. Visitors should not miss the sunset and fresh breeze at the rice fields behind Wat Khao Kaeo. Then cycle along the irrigation canal to visit farmers and their premium quality ‘Sao Hai’ rice, and have a chance to watch them fish. After that, take a shower and enjoy a traditional Palaeng dinner in a warm and friendly atmosphere at Thai Yuan Cultural Centre. Visitors are also welcome to stay with a family through the local homestay community. If travelling in a group, the community will offer traditional dances performed by their children. Everyone says farewell to the delightful evening by joining together in a traditional Thai dance.

Cycling Canals and Fruit Orchards: Samut Songkhram
Experience the fruit farmers’ way of life. Admire their local wisdom derived from their ancestors about how to nurture their prolific orchards. This one-day bike trip on a 27.90 km paved road is ideal for families and amateur cyclists, and can be enjoyed all year long.

Starting and finishing point: Wat Amphawanchetiyaram Attractions along the route

1. Wat Amphawanchetiyaram – Historically, the Temple had a connection with the Bang Chang Royal Family of King Rama II’s mother, a native of Samut Songkhram. Pay homage to the Temple’s principal Buddha’s image and admire the very intricate mural paintings, some of which are the work of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, such as the face of King Rama II’s portrait, and the faces of the drum troop.

2. King Rama II Memorial Park – Cyclists can have a nice morning warm-up in the park’s lush garden where the sweet scent of Thai flowers fills the air. While you’re here, be sure to visit the traditional Thai houses, which exhibit a collection of antiques from early 19th century Siam.

3. Conservation area for Pla Kaho Yak at Tambon Bang Phrom – The nearly extinct Pla Kaho Yak is a large herbivorous freshwater fish which appears here only during the Chinese New Year (late January – early February). At present, it has been reported that only a few pairs of this fish have been living in Mae Khlong River. Visitors will enjoy feeding rice noodles to this harmless and easy frightened fish.

4. Tang Siam Ha House Museum – On cycling to Wat Ko Kaeo and heading to the Temple’s backyard, visitors will find nearby a row of traditional wooden houses, which is where the Tang Siam Ha House Museum is located. The Museum collects interesting objects from Mae Khlong River bed, which are mostly ancient ceramic pottery, as well as utensils which belonged to Chinese volunteer troops stationed at Bang Kung Camp. These forces rallied with King Taksin to reclaim Siam’s independence from Burma after Ayutthaya’s second loss to the Burmese invaders. Advance reservation is required, so visitors must contact Khun Thawatchai or Khun Prapeephat, tel. 0 3476 1098.

5. World famous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market – The Mae Khlong River and its canals create the perfect environment for a traditional Thai floating market. This market has a very pleasant atmosphere of breezy canals lined with greenery and wooden houses and is very worth visiting. Moreover, visitors can indulge in a great variety of food offered by merchants from a hundred wooden boats rowing from early morning till noon.

6. Somdet Amarin Bridge – Stop here for an impressive photo opportunity on the bridge across the Mae Klong River. The bridge offers a pleasant view of a splendid gothic French church on the banks of the serene river. The church was built more than 100 years ago.

7. Bang Kung Military Camp – After cycling for more than 20 km, refresh with cool drinks from shops at the Camp. Pay homage to the sacred Luang Pho Dam, which encouraged and uplifted the spirits of Siamese navy troops to free the nation from Burma after the second defeat of Ayutthaya Kingdom. Visitors will be amazed with the temple’s ‘Bot’ or ‘ordination hall’, which has been embraced by the huge roots banyan tree roots since ancient times.

8. Wat Bang Kae Noi – Arrive the Temple in the afternoon. Don’t miss the Bot whose interior is adorned with exquisite wooden carvings about Buddha’s life. In addition, the monks’ quarters are a collection of traditional Central Thai houses, which contain rectangular seats made from single planks of Golden Takian wood more than 1 m wide.

9. Ban Maeo Thai or Siamese Cat House – The house belongs to Uncle Preecha Pukkhabut, and showcases several kinds of indigenous Siamese cats whose names are poetically beautiful and have auspicious meanings. One special example is Wichian Mat, which means Diamond of the Moon and has been believed since ancient times to bring good fortune to its owners. Because of this belief, this particular cat has been a popular pet in the royal court, and is emblematic of the World famous Siamese Cat.

10. Wat Phummarin – Admire the Temple’s teak abode adorned with intricate gold and black lacquer designs. It was built by the father of King Rama I’s queen, and was given to the monk abbot who predicted that his daughter would become the King’s queen. Therefore, the Temple’s background is concerned with King Rama II’s biography and the history of the Chakri Monarchy.

11. Khlong Amphawa Evening Market – Enjoy the charming sundown at the quaint market on the banks of Amphawa Canal. There’s nothing better than finishing the trip with refreshing and aromatic young coconut juice. In addition, shops at the market specialize in superb Thai desserts. The market is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 – 20.00 hrs.

Trip giude SAMUTPRAKAN

Home
Destination Guide
SAMUTPRAKAN

The Ancient CityThe Ancient City, like a door opened to the cultural in heritage of Siam. The visitors are able to see the continuity of the history, arts, cultures, religious, thoughts as well as the believes of Thai talents. It shall reflect to Thai fundamentals and the varieties of the cultures on Thai territories.

The historical of Siam will visually be revived at The Ancient City. All the visitors can see and sense by themselves.

Objective
Ancient cities, ruins or architecture are historic and constitute the splendors of the past. The past is the time, gone by, and its period represents a definite portion of time fixed by events occurring in nature or man-made in history, which follow one after another. The difference is that one precedes the other in the manner of the sun and the moon, which take turns to give brightness to provide days, months and years. All phenomena have no point of beginning that can be clearly seen. There is a rotation-each following the other in regular order in a cycle. The effect to-day follows the cause of yesterday. The change of tomorrow is what happens to-day.
The Ancient City
Therefore, man must know the events of the past. If we have no knowledge of the past, it is somewhat like a vessel without a compass and a rudder on the high sea. What will happen to that vessel is a matter of grave concern.

Moreover, great harm is derived from ignorance, but more harm still is caused by not knowing truly and yet pretending to know. The result is sure to be ruinous. In ancient as well as in present times, the successes and failures in innumerable cases result from such cause. True knowledge in art requires the time to study pass and encounter many difficulties in bringing the unknown to light.

Nowadays everything seems to become narrower and narrower. A tiny thing ,which occurs in one small corner of the world, may be able to stir all over the globe. Thus I am perturbed by the anxiety that the changing of the modern society, due to pressure of material things coupled with the present East and West cultures facing each other in a violent manner, might become still more serious. All the intellectuals or pundits should take special notice. Even those who hold their own bibles as their refuge for centuries have to leave their beliefs and turn to consider matters which they think antagonistic.

The Ancient City

The Ancient CityStrongly believe that the morality of the world population is deteriorating. And at the same time I cannot deny the advancement of science that is so valuable to mankind, incomparable in any era. We Asians, believe that the scientific approach can bring knowledge to human beings. But it cannot elevate the spirit of man. It has only paved the way for materialists in their search for worldly happiness.

The Ancient CityEverything has to depend on the suitable position, right nucleus and right time. The suitable position means the position that is rightly appropriate. The nucleus means growth under limitation. The right time means the needed environment at the time. If heaven needs something to remain, it will not develop beyond the limitation of growth. This is the state of balance according to the law of nature.

Suitability and beauty have no boundary in age. This can be proven by the existence of art, paintings and architecture that were beautifully created by man as lasting treasures and have been handed down to us by our ancestors. Every piece of art is priceless. Some have become world treasures and adored by art lovers. They seem to have no nationality, no religion, no limit in time. Only art has bestowed the refreshing spirit on human beings up to the present day. Therefore, we should give more serious thought and interest to art.

The Ancient CityIt is not only Art that has been given to us by our forbears. One must mention Culture here also. Both are linked as a national heritage. Some have been left without care, or in other words to be carved for by nature, and worse still destroyed by the hand of man. Though culture has been regarded as old fashioned, yet it is still suitable for human society.

Under the circumstances, I would like to draw the attention of the world population to come to witness our art, customs and culture. I am certain that in one day or another they will benefit the noble spirit and will be a good reminder to those who are drawn to materialism. Thus the "Muang Boran" has been created. This may remedy the existing moral deterioration of human society. But whether or not this great problem can be solved and can achieve its aim, and who will solve it, my answer is that it will not be an individual but everybody together. It is not a matter of time from morn till night. It is to be months, years and even centuries. There is an old saying that "To build a hill, a lump of earth has its own value".
The Ancient CityThis can be compared with a traveller. Each step contributes and has its own value. To complete the building of one hill, it has to depend on the first lump of earth. To reach the end of the journey, it has to depend on first step. If my own motto is not consonant with those who uphold that the present society is right and should advance its course further, I am compelled to implore them to do justice to what justice is. Seek goodness from the thing that we hate ; seek badness from the one you love, in order that these can be in evidence to help judging the Thai art, customs and culture of old ; and whether they are as valuable as I judge them to be.

The Ancient City, Muang Boran, is an excellent reflection of Thailand's multi-faceted ancient culture presented in an authentic and visually exciting setting.

Muang Boran

Through symbolic architectural styles and fine arts, its various structures and natural surroundings are harmoniously unified, allowing visitors to witness the continuous flow of Thailand's history, culture, religion and art, as well as past and present customs and traditions of its people. It is a place where Thais can perceive and recognize their roots and heritage, and overseas visitors can gain an insight into the Thai ways of life.

Muang BoranThe Ancient City, Muang Boran, is like an open book of history and an open door to the real Thailand. Here you will find numerous reproductions of palace halls, temples, stupas, stone sanctuaries and traditional houses. You can also visit several reconstructed historical buildings, authenticated communities with their inhabitants doing their daily chores and sample villages from all regions of the country.

Muang BoranWhat's more, these awe inspiring historical and cultural symbols have been further enhanced by their surroundings, specially created and subtly merged, to reflect a social and cultural atmosphere of the past. New creations such as the Sumeru Mountains, the statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin and the Garden of the Gods and have also been incorporated to convey the cultural and religious beliefs of people in these ancient communities.

Certainly, the one thing you must not miss is a visit to the Ancient City, Muang Boran. It will offer you in a nutshell most of what Thailand is all about past, present and future. You may consider a walk to explore all historical buildings, museums, monuments and the new creations full of amazing artistic details and of great beauty. Or, if you wish, you may join an organized tour. Even with a modern comfortable vehicle, it will take you hours to do justice to every one of the some 109 spots of interest.

Lake View Princess Golf ClubAdventure is the style of this absorbing course. Greens are the well defined fairways provide the necessary pointers for golfers to retain a sense of direction. Rolling fairways and spectacular mounding around the greens can make some approach shots quite tricky. The par-three fourteenth is one of the outstanding holes on the course in that both tees and green are islands within a large lake, only accessible by footbridges from the mainland. The 75-room hotel adjoining the clubhouse commands fine views over the golf courses and mountains beyond.

The course runs from east to west, with lakes at each end. The greens can be fast with some very tricky burrows. Water comes into play on twelve holes and accurate shot making is called for. The seventeenth is one of six dog-leg holes and players have to contend with water on the left flank and on the green. The eighteenth is an excellent finishing hole, demanding an accurate tee shot to avoid the water on both sides of the fairway. The second shot also has to be "placed" to avoid hitting into the water on the right of the fairway. There is a big clubhouse, hotel and condominiums, plus a sports center.
