Cruising along the Chao Phraya River The Chao Phraya River runs through Pathum Thani province, surrounded by a panoramic view of the community, houses, and beautiful nature. Tourists are able to drop by at many ancient temples on the river banks in Amphoe Mueang and Amphoe Sam Khok such as Wat Bang Na, Wat Hong Pathummawat, Wat Chankapho, Wat Song Phi Nong, Wat Sala Daeng, and Wat Phai Lom. They can also visit the market by the river of Pathum Thani to purchase delicious food as a souvenir. Well, just yesterday, me and wifey went for a complimentary day-trip to Thailand’s one and only supposedly-super groovy Dream World. If you’ve never been or even heard of Dream World, well it’s Thailand’s most well-known funpark, located in Pathumthani near Future Park Rangsit. After a two hour journey from Suphanburi, we ended up arriving at the place at 9:30 in the morning and since it was a Sunday, the entrance was virtually flooded with folk waiting to get in. To greet yous at Dream World, there are guys on stilts, uni-cycles and attendants blowing up balloon-dogs for the kids.
I hadn’t been to Dream World for something like 6 years, but the place hasn’t really changed that much, same old amusement rides offering not so scary rides. What has changed though is the landscape. The gardens are really beautiful, laid out with the nicest array of flowers south of Chiang Mai. For lovers, there is the ‘Sweetheart’ garden with pinky shaped-heart things to have your photo taken under and romantic benches to cuddle yer darling on. If that doesn’t take your fancy, then there is even Dreamworld’s equivalent of Lopburi’s Sunflower fields, where you can have your pic taken surrounded by such flowers and lie to friends and family that you have just been up north.
An added attraction of late, courtesy of Thai Airways, is Dream World’s very own ‘Wonders of the World’ and the ones they have chosen to adopt for they mini town are different from the 7 Winners of late. There is a mini Eiffel Tower, Angkor Wat, Egyptian Pyramid and even a Statue of Liberty. I didn’t think the set-up was that amazing though, ok enough, but not exactly worth writing home about.
In the center of Dream World is a big lake, but for some weird reason known only to the management there, the cost of a ride in one of their paddle boats etc… is excluded from the ‘all-in-one’ tickets. So, what about the rides on offer? Well, by far the most popular are the Viking, Hurricane, Hanging Coaster, Space Coaster and Raptor. But be rest-assured, the waiting queues yesterday were really long, an average of 20+ minutes each. The queues were obviously made even longer as at least 3 other major rides were out of action due to repair. Besides the rides mentioned above, all the other stuff offered as part of the ‘all-in-one’ ticket price were for old-age pensioners or toddlers, nothing thrilling.
Dream World’s favourite and most famous attraction is beyond a doubt its ‘Snow Town’ (another half an hour wait, getting in and out). Snow Town is Thailand’s one and only attraction were the temperature inside is below zero. Unfortunately, there isn’t any snow falling from the roof, but there is plenty of shaved-ice on the ground to chuck in your friend’s face. We all know that Thais just love taking photos at every opportunity and for the background inside is a huge snowman, reindeer, polar bear, and a squad of stuffed penguins. There is also a Slider, where you can get yourself an inflated rubber ring and shoot down the slope. Again, the average ‘one-in-all’ ticket doesn’t allow you to get inside Snow Town without having to fork over another 130baht.
At the end of the day, I wasn’t really that impressed by the service offered at Dream World. Over the past six years, since my last visit, there were even fewer rides on offer due to repair, nothing new had been brought in and the place still lacks decent restaurants. In fact, in regards to food, there is only a KFC, Subway, a handful of stalls selling edibles on rice and rows and rows of stalls knocking off basic hotdogs etc… Nothing really to fill your stomach. Since my last outing, I did notice a lot more game stalls, where for 40-100 baht you could win a teddy bear in some kinda dart game. In fact, at Dreamworld, there is plenty to spend your money on besides the price of the ‘all-in-one’ tickets. I would say that the best thing about Dream World is the gardens.
Personally, I don’t think Dream World is cheap by Thai standards. The basic entrance fee is 120baht which includes nothing extra. An ‘all-in-one’ ticket costs 330 baht which includes most rides but ceratinly not the Go-karts, boats and Snow Town (130 Baht), the latter of which is a must-see if you go to Dreamworld. So really, the basic cost for a day out at Dream World is 460 Baht per person. And don’t forget that if you go on a weekend, then unless you stay from morning til late there is practically no way that you are going to be able to enjoy all the rides and attractions (because of queues).
So if you wanna go to Dream World by car, the place is located just off the Rangsit-Ongkharat Road (Kilometer 7), Pathumthani province. For those without your own transport, your best bet is to get a taxi from Future Park Rangsit (about 30km past Don Muang airport). On leaving Dream World, you will have to take quite a long walk back to the main road to flag down a cab. Otherwise, be patient and wait for a cab at the entrance which has just brought folk to the park.
[ City Pillar Shrine ] This is located in the compound of the City Hall. It was constructed in 1977 as a four gabled pavilion housing the city pillar and statues of the gods Narai and Vishnu. On one side is enshrined a Buddha image of the Sukhothai style in the attitude of Subduing Evil.
[ Wat Sing] This first Mon style temple of Pathum Thani is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, 3 kms. from the township area. It houses Luang Pho To, an Ayutthaya style gold covered Buddha image in a rare mara posture and Luang Pho Phet, a reclining Buddha image . The monk's former quarters has been turned into a museum for Mon antiques along with a teak reproduction of a Lord Buddha footprint and a bedstead utilized by King Rama II during his visit to Sam Khok. The villagers living around the temple produce old style Mon bricks, famous products of Pathum Thani.
[ Wat Hong Pathummawat ] This is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the town. It was constructed by the reign of King Taksin. The chedi and vihara are replicas of the ones at Hongsawadi City. The fish sanctuary in front of the temple attracts many tourists during holidays.
[ Wat Chedi Thong ] This temple is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the vicinity of Amphoe Sam Khok, 8 kms. from Pathum Thani Town. There is a Mon style pagoda approximately 160 years old and a white jade Buddha image enshrined in the ubosot.
[ Wat Chinwararam ] This temple, originally called Wat Makham Tai, is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River slightly opposite the mouth of Khlong Rangsit Prayunsak in the vicinity of Amphoe Muang. The main interests are mural paintings depicting the story of "Phra Chao Sip Chat" or Lord Buddha's ten lives with poetic descriptions.
[ Science Museum ] The Science Museum is part of the National Science Museum's project which aims to be recognized as one of Asia's leading science and technology museums. The six exhibition floors of the museum are each devoted to different aspects of science and technology including the traditional Thai technology. Visitors are encouraged to touch, to try things for themselves and to have fun with the exhibits in line with the 'Hands-on' concept. The museum is located at the Technopolis, Khlong 5, Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road (approximately 10 minutes from Future Park Rangsit Shopping Center). [ Talad Thai ] This is Thailand's largest, international standard wholesale and retail market for food products and all agricultural produces including fruits. It is located on 200 acres of land in Tambon Rangsit, Amphoe Thanyaburi on Bangkok's outskirts and can be accessible by Phahonyothin Road.
[ Wat Phut Udom ] This temple constructed in 1894 is located in Tambon Lam Sai, Amphoe Lam Luk Ka, 57 kms. on the Pathum Thani-Nong Chok route. This temple is known for the illustrative images of hell and heaven stages of beings and other mythical figures made according to the Buddhist belief.
[ Wat Bua Khwan ] This temple in the vicinity of Amphoe Lat Lum Kaeo houses a Buddha image in the attitude of starving, which was cast in the reign of King Rama V. Another important attraction is the pavilion where King Rama VI presided over a ploughing ceremony, called "Sala Daeng" having a teak tile roofing which is regarded as exquisite.
[ Wat Chedi Hoi ] This small monastery is located at Tambon Bo Ngoen, Amphoe Lat Lum Kaeo, 18 kms. from the town. A tremendous number of giant oyster shells, 8 million years of age, were unearthed and piled up into a form of a chedi. Each shell weighs at least 1 kilogram.
[ Thung Rangsit] This flooded grassland at Tambon Khlong Nung, Amphoe Khlong Luang attracts many migratory birds escaping from the cold climate zones, such as the Rubythroats. the Blue Throats, the Bush Warblers, Crakes and Rails.
[ Wat Worani Thammakayaram ] This monastery, better known as the Meditation Practice Center, is located in Tambon Khlong Sam, Amphoe Khlong Luang, 5 kms. from Phahonyothin Road. The temple occupies a pleasant and extensive area with a jungle atmosphere suitable for practicing meditation.
[ Wat Phailom ] This temple is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in Amphoe Sam Khok. The Asian Openbills migrate from India to lay their eggs here from November to may. Other kinds of migratory birds include the Black-capped Kingfishers, the Spot-billed Pelicans and the black-headed Ibis.
[ Dream World] Situated on Km.7 on Rangsit-Ongkharak Road, a 10 minute drive from Don Muang Airport. This is an extensive fun land consisting playing machines. Wat Chedi Hoi, Pathum Thani Wat Chedi Hoi is located at Mu 4, Tambon Bo Ngoen. To get there: Take Highway No. 341 (Pathum Thani – Lat Lum Kaeo) to kilometre marker Nos. 21-22 and turn to the temple for approximately 10 kilometres. In the compound of the temple, a large number of gigantic fossilised oyster shells, aged millions of years were discovered. Luangpho Thongklueng, therefore, took the shells to build a chedi at the entrance of and in the temple. Furthermore, there is a museum collecting Buddha images, art objects, antiques, and many old utensils such as Sam Khok water jars, pottery, engraved wood, calculators, etc. Within the compound of the temple is a herbal garden, as well as, turtle and fish ponds for tourists to relax and feed the animals.
Wat Chedi Thong, Pathum Thani Wat Chedi Thong is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, Tambon Khlong Khwai. To get there: Take the Pathum Thani - Sam Khok route for approximately 8 kilometres and turn right for 500 metres to the temple. Inside the temple lies a Mon style chedi, constructed during the early Rattanakosin era by the Mons. Its architecture was duplicated from the Burmese “Chittakong” chedi. Besides, there is a Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture, made of white jade and revered by the Thai-Mon people.
Wat Bot, Pathum Thani Wat Bot is situated in Tambon Ban Klang on the east side of the Chao Phraya River. It can be visited by crossing Pathum Thani Bridge to the east side. Turn left at the crossroads and make a u-turn under the bridge to the temple on the opposite side of the road. Wat Bot was constructed in 1621 by the Mons who migrated from Pegu or Hongsawadi town. The name of the temple was from the village where the Mons had previously lived, similar to many other temples in Pathum Thani such as Wat Hong, Wat Bang Tanai, etc. People usually come to pay respect to the statues of three Buddha images in the ubosot and the cast statue of Luangpu Thian (Phrakhru Bowonthammakit), a senior monk who possesed high knowledge and tried to promote education among the Pathum Thani people. Moreover, there is an ancient wihan where an ancient Mon Buddha image, and Phra Saeng Ayasit – a sword of absolute power, reside, as well as many significant objects such as a four-headed elephant and a bronze miniature roofed throne to be put on top of a swan column and the lead sculpture of Ya-le (Jarlet), a dog of King Rama VI, which was granted to the abbot by the king when he visited Pathum Thani.

The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture, Pathum Thani The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture is situated in Tambon Khlong Nueng (Km. 46-48 Phahonyothin Road), opposite the Nava Nakorn Industrial Promotion Zone. The museum comprises a group of 9 buildings connecting to one another. It displays the story on agriculture through modern technology and models, covering every aspect of the agricultural process such as land development, forestry, fishery, animal husbandry, and ecological system, while outside are the greenhouses, demonstrating rice fields, and a presentation of the farmers’ lifestyles in every region of Thailand. Moreover, it is a training centre, an academic seminar venue on agriculture, and a source for education on the royal projects. The National Archives in Commemoration o..., Pathum Thani The museum was constructed on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne in 1996 by the Fine Arts Department in honour of His Majesty the King with a budget of 720.4 million Baht. H.M. the King granted its name as “the National Archives in Commemoration of H.M. the King’s Golden Jubilee.”
The National Archives is located in an area of 75 rai. Its building was constructed in the applied Thai architecture of King Rama IX’s reign. It is in Tambon Khlong Ha, Amphoe Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani. It comprises a group of 4 buildings connecting to one another and an all-purpose square, covering a total area of 20,000 square metres consisting of:
1st Building: A 9-floored building for the collection of archives, covering an area of 6,000 square metres. 2nd Building: A building for research, covering an area of 4,500 square metres. 3rd – 4th Buildings: Permanent exhibitions of H.M. the King’s royal activities and projects from His Majesty’s royal initiatives, covering an area of 3,000 square metres.
An all-purpose square for organising activities, covering an area of 3,500 square metres.
The Fine Arts Department wants these 4 buildings of the National Archives to be the most perfect place to collect the documents important to the nation on his royal biography, activities of H.M. the King and the royal family, to be a centre of study and research for government authorities, private organisations, students and the general public to facilitate in the collection, display, searching process, and preservation of the documents relating to H.M. the King’s biography and activities such as His royal pieces of writings, instructions, speeches, compositions, paintings, photos, records of his voice, including the document of the operation in his royal projects due to his royal initiatives and other projects in honour of H.M. the King. Therefore, this National Archives is a learning place for the younger generation and youth to realise and appreciate the King’s talent in ruling the country and the loyalty of the Thais towards every king of Thailand. Rangsit Science Education Centre, Pathum Thani It is situated near Khlong Hok. The centre’s entrance is next to the Rajamangala University of Technology, 4 kilometres from the Rangsit - Nakhon Nayok Intersection. It is under the supervision of the Office of the Non-formal Education Commission. It is an educational learning source on science for children, youth and the public. It comprises exhibitions on science, technology, natural science, astronomy, and space. Moreover, there are various experimental activities encouraging fun learning. Wat Phuet Udom, Pathum Thani Wat Phuet Udom is in Tambon Lam Sai 31 kilometres from the National Memorial along Highway No. 3312. There is a minibus provided from Min Buri, Nong Chok, and Saphan Mai to the temple all day. This temple is located on the bank of Khlong Hok Wa and contains many sculptures presenting the belief in sins and goodness in Buddhism. Inside the ubosot resides a replica of the Luangpho Sothon Buddha image with small stairs up to the artificial 6 realms of heaven and down to hell under the ubosot.
The National Memorial, Pathum Thani The National Memorial is located in Tambon Khu Khot in the connecting area of Vibhavadi Rangsit and Phahonyothin Roads. It is accessible by taking the bus Nos. 29, 34, 39, 59, 95, and air-conditioned bus Nos. 503, 504, 510, 513, 524, 529 and 539. It covers an area of 38 rai and is under the supervision of the Armed Forces Education Department, Supreme Command Headquarters. It is a memorial extolling the heroic deeds of Thai ancestors who used their intellect, ability, flesh and blood, as well as, their life to protect this Motherland. It is also a museum providing knowledge on Thai history and major Thai battles, including the Thai armies’ mission abroad such as the Vietnam War, Korean War, presented through dioramas of the happening and photos. There are rooms displaying the evolution of uniforms and ranking insignias of the militants in every period and soil from major battlefields. In front of the building resides King Rama V’s beautifully engraved marble statue of a half larger than life size. Another very interesting part of this memorial is the building exhibiting the magnificent visual arts on the 90-metre arch wall telling the story from the Sukhothai period to the Rattanakosin period, together with a narrative explanation. Outside the building lies gigantic decommissioned military weapons.

Wat Song Phi Nong, Pathum Thani Wat Song Phi Nong is located in Tambon Ban Ngio, on the bank of the Chao Phraya River above Wat Phai Lom. It was constructed in 1867. There are two sacred Buddha images residing on the bank of the river which are Luangpho Phet, a laterite Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture reflecting the U Thong art and Luangpho Phloi, a carved stone one, also presenting U Thong art. The latter was stolen. Therefore, it was rebuilt by the temple and has been respected among the boatmen and the public.
Wat Chankapho, Pathum Thani Wat Chankapho is in Tambon Bang Toei, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, 6 kilometres from the city hall. It was constructed by the Mons during the reign of King Rama II and was called “Wat Kwo”, meaning “Chankapho” – Vatica diospyroides Sym. - which for the Mons is an auspicious tree similar to the golden shower. Inside the temple is a cultural hall collecting Mon objets d’art. There is also a project to preserve the fish species in front of the temple. Besides, the temple is an important ceremonial venue of the Pathum Thani locals such as “Ok Hoi Pachu”, Takhap Flag competition, a ceremony offering food to 100 monks, etc.
Boat Library and Bang Prok Community, Pathum Thani The Bang Prok Community is next to Wat Hong Pathummawat. It is a strong Mon community in the preservation and the revival of the Mon culture. The people in the community have together built a boat library made of an old boat under the shade of a banyan tree, aged more than 100 years. It is a centre of teenagers to get together and search for knowledge. There are many classes provided such as a computer class, traditional Thai dancing class, traditional Thai long drum class, as well as, traditional Thai music class. It is a production and selling area of the community’s products. There is a playground, a welcoming centre organising activities for visitors such as musical and Mon traditional dance performances, local Mon cuisine such as Khao Chae –steamed rice in cold scented water, eaten with condiments, Kalamae - Thai rice caramel - cooking, Mon cultural shows such as Hang Hong-Thong Takhap procession tradition, traditional Thai medicine centre, organic fertilizer production, and the making of souvenirs from left-over materials. Lotus Museum, Pathum Thani The museum is situated in Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. Founded in 2000 as a project of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to collect lotus species both Thai, foreign and hybrid, this museum is a research and learning centre.
Its aim is to study the lotus itself and put different parts of the plant to good use. In addition, it is a lotus botanical garden, dedicated to the preservation and propagation of the beautiful flower, and this makes it an ideal resource for ecotourism.
The area is filled with hundreds of various kinds of lotus planted both in pots and in ponds, including "Mangkala Ubol" which received the award of Best New Hardy Waterlily 2004 in the 19th World Lotus Competition in the U.S.A.

Dream World, Pathum Thani It is situated in Tambon Bueng Yitho, Km. 7 on the Rangsit – Nakhon Nayok route, Khlong Sam. Take air-conditioned bus No. 538 (Victory Monument – Rajamangala University of Technology) or take a bus of the BMTA to Rangsit, continue with any bus to Rajamangala University of Technology and get off at Dream World.

Talat Thai, Pathum Thani Talat Thai is Thailand's largest, international standard wholesale and retail market for food products and all agricultural produces including fruits, vegetables, cut flowers and pot plants. It is located on 200 acres of land in Tambon Rangsit, Amphoe Thanyaburi on Bangkok's outskirts and can be accessible by Phahonyothin Road.
The Supreme Artist Hall, Pathum Thani The Supreme Artist Hall is located at Khlong (Canal) 5 in Khlong Luang district. It is evident to the Thai People that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has taken an active interest in all kinds of Art. The three-story building is divided into seven rooms : one for Administration, one for temporary exhibition, five for permanent exhibition (two for the Supreme Artist, and three for 151 National Artists / since 1985-2003). The exhibition halls are equipped with modern mixed media; such as video, multimedia computer, video CD, CD, Duratane picture, Diorama, Karaoke, photo sticker box, slide multi-vision etc.

The Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum (SEA..., Pathum Thani The Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum (SEACM) was established in 2002 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bangkok University. The museum, which houses more than 2,000 ancient and valuable ceramics donated by Mr. Surat Osathanugrah, the founder of Bangkok University, aims to instill an appreciation for ceramics in students, art lovers and art enthusiasts alike. It will also be a center for research and training on all aspects of historical ceramics.
The museum is responsible for housing and preserving valuable collections of ancient ceramics, most of them made in Thailand or imported into Thailand in ancient times; collating data and information related to ceramic wares and potteries; identifying the various types of ceramics according to their origins and characteristics; documenting and safeguarding the collections; exhibiting the collections; organizing educational activities; and providing ancillary museum services and any other activities that will contribute to the uniqueness of the museum. National Science Museum, Pathum Thani The Science Museum is considered as a display venue for exhibitions and scientific activities to communicate with and provide knowledge to visitors to better understand science and technology, as well as, to apply them in daily life for the sustainable development of the country. Located in Tambon Khlong Hok, within the compound of the Technopolis Complex, 4 kilometres from the intersection of the Rangsit - Nakhon Nayok Road, the museum is accessible by taking air-conditioned bus No. 1155, Rangsit – Future Park – Science Museum Line. It is distinctive due to its design into a dice shape.
Inside, the building displays exhibitions of science through modern technology that create fun at the same time as learning. On the 1st floor lies a photo gallery, scientific pieces of work, and gigantic artificial earth. On the 2nd floor is a life-like reconstruction of “Lucy” fossils, presenting the creation of the first human being, a spaceship, and a replica of an astronaut. On the 3rd floor is located a shadow tunnel and a wooden house presenting the information on lights, while the 4th floor exhibits the basic information and technology of Thailand, geographical, geological and ecological characteristics, agricultural production, as well as, technology in construction. The 5th floor displays human anatomy and daily life utensils, while the 6th floor has a presentation on Thai intellect. Moreover, there is a natural science museum, which manifests knowledge on natural science.

This first Mon style temple of Pathum Thani is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, 3 kms. from the township area. It houses Luang Pho To, an Ayutthaya style gold covered Buddha image in a rare mara posture and Luang Pho Phet, a reclining Buddha image . The monk's former quarters has been turned into a museum for Mon antiques along with a teak reproduction of a Lord Buddha footprint and a bedstead utilized by King Rama II during his visit to Sam Khok. The villagers living around the temple produce old style Mon bricks, famous products of Pathum Thani.
This temple is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the vicinity of Amphoe Sam Khok, 8 kms. from Pathum Thani Town. There is a Mon style pagoda approximately 160 years old and a white jade Buddha image enshrined in the ubosot.
The Science Museum is part of the National Science Museum's project which aims to be recognized as one of Asia's leading science and technology museums. The six exhibition floors of the museum are each devoted to different aspects of science and technology including the traditional Thai technology. Visitors are encouraged to touch, to try things for themselves and to have fun with the exhibits in line with the 'Hands-on' concept. The museum is located at the Technopolis, Khlong 5, Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road (approximately 10 minutes from Future Park Rangsit Shopping Center). Open Tuesday-Sunday, 9.30 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission fees are 20 baht for children and 50 baht for adults. This temple, originally called Wat Makham Tai, is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River slightly opposite the mouth of Khlong Rangsit Prayunsak in the vicinity of Amphoe Muang. The main interests are mural paintings depicting the story of "Phra Chao Sip Chat" or Lord Buddha's ten lives with poetic descriptions. 
This temple is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the town. It was constructed by the Mon immigrants in 1764 during the reign of King Taksin. The chedi and vihara are replicas of the ones at Hongsawadi City. The fish sanctuary in front of the temple attracts many tourists during holidays.
